Feminine Hygiene The Marvel Way, 1920s-1930s?,
Marvel vaginal douche booklet, U.S.A.
Although the early-to-mid 20th century was probably the heyday of douching
in America, women have probably always squirted fluids into their vaginas
- "douched" in English, but the word usually means a full-body
shower in other languages. Your basic adult vagina is a 6-7 inch (28-31
cm) tube with huge amounts of bacteria (mostly good and necessary) and connects
to the inside of a woman's body. It's warm and can create odor that the
world's cultures value in different ways. Besides reducing odor, douching
can wash out and/or kill sperm, sometimes preventing babies. But read why women should normally not
douche.
See an American douche set, Mon Docteur
(My Doctor in French), with instructions and booklets, from about 1929.
And see an American douche syringe from probably
1960-70 and read what a woman once famous in "feminine hygiene"
wrote about douching.

I again thank the generous retired teacher who contributed this and
many other items!

Below: Back (at left)
and front covers. Each coated and glossy page measures 3.25 x 5.325"
(8.3 x 13.6 cm). The booklet is in perfect shape.
I guess the drawing is supposed to illustrate how a douche works but the
lady in the illustration makes a fundamental mistake: her legs are together!
Nevertheless she shows how most cultures use the word douche, what Americans
call a shower.
